Typical Solar Water Heater Rebates
There are several federal and local government rebates and incentives available to encourage people to switch to more environmentally friendly solar hot water heaters. Here are some typical rebates which may be available to Sydney home owners:As of 19 February 2010 the Federal government rebate has now been reduced to $1,000 for solar hot water systems and this rebate is available, provided the eligibility criteria is met. The NSW State government Solar Hot Water rebate is $300 as of 15 January 2010 until 2011 for qualifying installations.
How Solar Water Heaters Work.
Harnessing energy from the sun to heat water is nothing new. Solar water heaters have been widely used in Australia and while they work best in tropical or semi-tropical regions, solar systems will even heat water when there is snow on the ground ( though to a lesser degree).Solar water heaters work by harnessing the heat from the sun to heat the water you use in your home or office. Normally mounted on the rooftop or other sunny locations they normally have as a minimum one or more solar panels combined with an insulated storage tank.In normal solar hot water heaters the insulated storage tank is y mounted just above the solar collectors. The hot water rises naturally into the tank through convectional flow.Other solar heater systems may require a pump to circulate the water, but this is sort of self defeating. In such systems the storage tank may be mounted on the ground or floor mounted and and thus a circulating pump is required to move the water between the tank and the collectors.Solar hot water systems are normally designed to deliver the hot water year round, but in some climates or during winter cold spells it may be necessary to use an electric booster heater to maintain the desired water temperature.Although Solar Water heaters are very low maintenance units, they do require cleaning of the exterior of the solar panels from time to time, and depending on the water you are heating you may also have to drain and clean the collector tank occasionaly.
